The Russian Swimming Federation announced on Wednesday that swimmer Ilya Borodin will miss the Tokyo Olympics after being tested positive for COVID-19. The 18-year-old was tested positive for the corona virus during a training camp in Vladivostok, Russia, before heading to Japan, the 2020 European champions in the men’s 400m individual medley.
“Ilya Borodin, a European champion and one of the leaders of the Olympic team, tested positive for Kovit-19, which means she will not be competing in the Tokyo Olympics,” the Russian Swimming Federation said in a statement.
The federation said all other athletes and coaching staff tested negative for the virus.
The Tokyo Games, which run from July 23 to August 8, have been postponed for a year due to a corona virus infection.
