The latest Telugu movie to hit theaters after the second wave of COVID-19 is Vishwak Sen’s “Paagal”. The movie is here. Vishwak Sen sounded confident about this movie and made some comments that made headlines.

Let’s see if the movie is paisa vasool as Vishwak claimed or not. Paagal Movie Review

Prem (Vishwak Sen) loses his mother at a young age. He grows up longing for motherly love. After finding a job, he embarks on a journey to propose love to many girls in hopes of receiving abundant affection and love. But he couldn’t find the girl he was actually looking for.

Finally, he meets Theera in Vizag, a girl who researches plants! After yelling “I Love You” for him in the middle of the road, she teases him that she’s never done anything like this before.

After much deliberation, she agrees to be his girlfriend for six months. Why does she agree to be his “temporary girlfriend”?

Why did she say ‘I love you’ to him on a busy road without knowing him?

Performances by artists:

Known for his hyperactive style, Vishwak Sen shows energy in his performance. He is charming as a loverboy. His character is designed as a person obsessed with finding love. That fits his image of a noisy man.

Nivetha Pethuraj brightens up the scene with her pleasant performance in the second half as the film begins to head south.

Bhumika and Simran Chaudhary make guest appearances. Murali Sharma has played a part that is not tasteful at all. Rahul Ramakrishna and Mahesh Achanta are ok.

Technical excellence:

Radhan’s two songs are punchy. “Google Google” is the best of them. The cinematography and production design are colorful. The dialogues are neat.

Illogical story and scenes
No emotional connection
Useful situations

There have been many love stories with some strange plot points or with protagonists with unique problems. The plot of “Paagal” is one such. Paagal Movie Review

The strange thing about this plot is that the hero is looking for a girl who would love him as much as his mother.

The illogical angle of this plot is that the hero does everything his friends say – propose a girl, say the same things to the girls they tell him, pretend to know nothing about a love affair, but speak dialogues like a grown person. The plot is illogical and the situations happen for convenience.

Despite the youthful atmosphere and some funny and entertaining portions, the film doesn’t captivate us because of the big hole in the plot it brings.

Spoiler Warning: The whole premise that neither Nivetha’s fiancé nor her parents are aware of her close relationship with Vishwak Sen, despite dating him for six months, makes no sense. Besides, why would her father order such an “act” just because she stepped out of her house the day before her wedding day? All these scenes are written for ease of creating drama.

Moreover, a politician like Murali Sharma who falls so easily for the “love proposal” of a random man is foolish. The whole track is clumsy at all angles. This is an example where the writers and directors think audiences would accept anything for the sake of entertainment or a plot twist.

To bring Nivetha’s story into the second half, the first half is dragged along with some silly tracks. After the break, the film looks a little better. The chemistry that Vishwak Sen and Nivetha share is one that will keep you engaged at the start of the second half. But the story gets tiresome as we move towards the end and we also lose interest. It ends predictably. Paagal Movie Review

In a nutshell, despite Vishwak Sen’s spirited presentation and energetic act, “Paagal” falls flat with a silly story.

Bottom line: Thin story, dragged narration
