No Way Home’ will be the first Phase 4 MCU movie to secure Chinese release
Spider-Man: No Way Home has officially secured a release in China, making it the first film in Phase 4 of the MCU to do so.
Sony has released a brand new poster for Spider-Man: No Way Home yesterday, including one for the Chinese market. No formal release date has been set for the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, although it wouldn’t be surprising if the Middle Kingdom gets the film on the same day as North American fans. Spider-Man: No Way Home will be the first Phase 4 MCU film to pass China’s strict censorship and screening approvals.
The latest from Marvel Studios Eternals failed to secure a release in China due to critical remarks about the government by director Chloe Zhao nearly a decade ago. Black Widow and Shang-Chi also failed to secure a release date in one of the world’s most profitable markets. With Spider-Man: No Way Home debuting in China, it’s more than likely that the MCU threequel will be the first movie in 2021 to break a billion dollars. The last film to reach that milestone was 2019 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage is slated to debut in the country, although no official release date has been announced for the sequel to Tom Hardy. It’s hard to imagine that the Venom sequel will hit theaters in China sooner or later, as it seems to lead directly to Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Here is the synopsis for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home:
“For the first time in Spider-Man movie history, our friendly neighborhood hero is masked and can no longer separate his normal life from the high stakes of being a superhero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange, the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it really means to be Spider-Man.”
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No way home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, JB Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch and Alfred Molina.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theaters on December 17, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest on the film, as well as what’s going on in Marvel Studios’ Multiverse, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
