Megaproducer Ryan Murphy Spends Big for Cliff May-Designed Equestrian Ranch

The $ 300 million Hollywood man has been consolidating his real estate in recent years. Last fall, the well-attended showrunner Ryan Murphy (American horror story, American crime history, Glee, Nip / Tuck, Ratched, 9-1-1) sold his old Laguna Beach vacation home for $ 10.7 million to an obviously wealthy but not famous couple. And earlier this year, he dumped his main Beverly Hills residence for $ 16.3 million, selling it to producer David Zander. (For what it’s worth, Zander has already sold that same 90210 house, off the market, for $ 16.5 million to hedge fund manager Seth Wunder.)

Now Murphy is refocusing his attention on growing his portfolio of properties in Brentwood. Eight years ago, he bought a $ 9 million mansion in his pocket in the bucolic Sullivan Canyon neighborhood; After years of expensive renovations, he finally moved into that Mediterranean-style structure. Last year, he paid Ari Emanuel $ 6.5 million for the much smaller house next door, which has since been demolished. And just last month, the prolific TV show maker spent another $ 7.2 million to purchase a renovated horse ranch that’s just a half-mile from his $ 15.5 + million main complex.

Located deep in Sullivan Canyon and originally designed by famed architect Cliff May, the home looks quite modest from the street, a tribute to its humble ranch roots from the 1970s. Inside, however, the skylight site is newly remodeled and boasts 4,000 square feet of open-plan living space. There are many modern amenities, with high-end stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, a spa-style bathroom in the master suite, and wide plank hardwood floors throughout. Renovated last year, the property last sold in 2019 for $ 5.2 million.

The half-acre lot also includes three horse stalls and is within trotting distance of the community riding trails. In the back, a flagstone patio surrounds the in-ground pool and spa, and there’s an outdoor dining area with built-in barbecue service and pizza oven. Also on the premises is a newly built ADU with its own kitchen; While the property does not appear to have a garage, there are off-street parking spaces for at least four cars.

Murphy, a 56-year-old Indiana native, first came to prominence in Tinseltown in the early 2000s after creating Nip / Tuck, which lasted 100 episodes. Subsequent mega-hits like Joy and American horror story It cemented his status as one of the most successful producers of the modern era and led to the signing of his 2018 Netflix deal, the largest development deal in television history. On a personal level, Murphy has been married to photographer David Miller since 2012; The couple has three children.
