Lamont Marcell Jacobs, born September 26, 1994, is an Italian sprinter and long jumper. He won the 60m title during the 2021 European Indoor Athletics Championships. On August 1, 2021, Jacobs set a new European 100m record with a time of 9.80 at the 2020 Olympics, winning the gold medal in the process.

He is the first Italian to win the 100m Olympic title. Jacobs closed the 2020-21 indoor season as the world leader in 60 meters.

Italian Lamont Marcell Jacobs scored an impressive victory to take the Olympic 100m title. The Texas-born sprinter clocked 9.80 seconds in Tokyo on Sunday to finish ahead of American Fred Kerley and Canadian Andre De Grasse.

Jacobs became the first man to win the 100 meters in addition to Usain Bolt since Justin Gatlin in 2004.

The race, which featured a new generation of sprinters, was the first without three-time champion Usain Bolt since the 2004 Athens Games.

Jacobs, 26, was seen as a surprise contender in the race in which American Fred Kerley took the silver medal and Canada’s Andre de Grasse won the bronze. The world record for the race was set by Bolt, who retired after the 2017 world championship, with a time of 9.58 seconds.

The son of an Italian mother and an African-American father, Lamont Marcell Jacobs was born in El Paso, Texas, where he spent his first 18 months. When his father, a soldier in the United States Army, was transferred to South Korea, he moved to Desenzano del Garda with his mother.

She began competing in track and field there at the age of ten, initially preferring sprinting, then discovered the long jump in 2011. She then moved to Rome, where she lives with her partner Nicole and their two children, Anthony (born 2019) and Megan (born in 2021). Jacobs has a son, Jeremy (born 2013), from a previous relationship when he was 19 years old.

In 2016, Jacobs won the Italian Athletics Championships in the long jump. With a personal best of 8.07m, he was ranked 10th on the IAAF World Leaders list at the end of the 2017 indoor season. At the 2016 Italian Under-23 Championships he jumped 8.48m, the best performance for an Italian, although this result cannot be recognized as a national record for a 2.8 m / s downwind (the regulatory limit is 2.0 m / s).

On May 13, 2021, in Savona, Italy, he set the Italian record in the 100 meters with a time of 9.95 s,[10] becoming the 150th person in history to break the 10-second barrier.
