Gulzar is a well-known Indian poet, lyricist, and movie director. He’s usually termed as ‘Gulzar Saab.’ Gulzar is among the most celebrated poets in India. He has penned down the lyrics for a lot of standard movies like ‘Aashirwad’ (1968), ‘Anand’ (1971), ‘Mere Apne’ (1971), ‘Namak Haraam’ (1973), ‘Khubsoorat’ (1980), ‘Rudaali’ (1993), ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ (2008), ‘Raajneeti’ (2010), ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ (2012), ‘Raazi’ (2018), and ‘The Sky is Pink’ (2019).

Gulzar Wiki/Biography

He was born as ‘Sampooran Singh Kalra’ on Saturday, 18 August 1934 (age 85 years; as in 2019) within the Dina Metropolis of the Jhelum District in Punjab, British India (now Pakistan). His zodiac signal is Leo. He used to check in a neighborhood college in his village in Pakistan. As a result of partition of India in 1947, his household needed to break up and transfer to Delhi. He did his education from The Delhi United Christian College. His household used to reside in Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi space. In Delhi, he began working at a small store.

He attended the St Stephen’s Faculty in Delhi. After which, his father despatched him to Mumbai to make a profession for himself. To make a dwelling in Mumbai, Gulzar began taking over many small jobs in Mumbai together with the job of a mechanic and a supervisor at a storage at Vichare Motors on Bellasis Highway. Gulzar used to color accident-damaged vehicles by mixing shades of paints there. In keeping with Gulzar, he cherished to color because it gave him sufficient time to learn, write, attend school, and be concerned with the PWA (Progressive Author’s Affiliation). He was mentored by Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi, the Pakistani poet.

Gulzar belongs to a Kalra Sikh Household. His father’s title is Makhan Singh Kalra, and his mom’s title is Sujaan Kaur. Gulzar’s father married thrice, so, he has many stepsiblings. One in all his elder brothers was an MA in Literature, with whom he used to seek the advice of about varied literati. Gulzar bought married to Rakhee Gulzar on 15 Might 1973. The couple has a daughter named Meghna Gulzar (Bosky), who’s a movie director, producer, and author. When Meghna was only one 12 months previous, the couple bought separated because of the variations between them.

As a Lyricist

He was working with PWA (Progressive Author’s Affiliation), the place he met the veterans Shailendra and Bimal Roy, who inspired him to work in movies. He began working underneath the administrators Bimal Roy and Hrishikesh Mukherjee. He began his profession as a lyricist with the movie “Kabuliwala (1961).” Though, he was observed after he labored for the movie “Bandini (1963),” during which he had penned down the lyrics of the tune “Mora Gora Ang Lai Le.”

Within the movie, virtually all of the songs had been written by Shailendra and he insisted Gulzar write a tune for the movie. Gulzar earned recognition after he wrote the lyrics of the tune “Humne Dekhi Hai Un Aankhon Ki Mehekti Khushboo” from the movie “Khamoshi (1969).”

He has written songs for varied movies akin to “Aashirwad (1968),” “Anand (1971),” “Mere Apne (1971),”  “Namak Haraam (1973),” “Khubsoorat (1980),” “Rudaali (1993),” “Slumdog Millionaire (2008),” “Raajneeti (2010),” “Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012),” “Raazi (2018),” “The Sky is Pink (2019),” and lots of extra.

As a Director

Gulzar made his directorial debut with the 1971 movie “Mere Apne.”
