Varun Singh served as the directing staff of the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) at Wellington, Tamil Nadu, as a Group Captain in the Indian Air Force. He has been awarded the Shaurya Chakra, the third highest bravery award.
Varun was the lone survivor of the helicopter crash that killed Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhullika Rawat, and 11 other passengers on December 8, 2021. Varun died of a serious burn on December 15, 2021, in Bangalore Military Hospital. Varun was qualified for National Defence Academy (NDA) after 12th standard and passed out as Cadet.
